Enjoying a 25-plus year career as a stage performer, Dean Anthony was often referred to as "The Tumbling Tenor"; He created over 100 roles and was highly praised as a character artist for his vocal, dramatic, physical, and acrobatic abilities. Mr. Anthony has quickly established himself as a dynamic Stage Director and Teacher on the operatic scene with his energetic, gritty, and physical style of work. In 2017-2018, he will direct GLORY DENIED, AIDA and DEAD MAN WALKING for Pensacola Opera, RAKES PROGRESS for the Frost School of Music at University of Miami, FALSTAFF at Opera on the James, Rossini's SEMIRAMIDE at Opera Delaware, LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and STREET SCENE at the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center. In the 2015-2016 season, Mr. Anthony will direct LA TRAVIATA and THE MERRY WIDOW for Pensacola Opera, HMS PINAFORE and DEAD MAN WALKING for Shreveport Opera, FALSTAFF for Opera Delaware, THE BALLAD OF BABY DOE and MARRIAGE OF FIGARO for Amarillo Opera, CARMEN for Opera on the James, MERRY WIDOW at Winter Opera of St. Louis, a premiere of J. Mark Scearce's opera FALLING ANGEL and A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM with guest alumni artist David Daniels at the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center.

Other productions include MADAMA BUTTERFLY with Syracuse Opera, TOSCA with Florentine Opera, Anton Coppola's SACCO AND VANZETTI with Opera Tampa, MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, CARMEN and RIGOLETTO with St. Petersburg Opera, THE MERRY WIDOW and BARBER OF SEVILLE with Opera on the James, and MAN OF LA MANCHA, SWEENEY TODD, LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN, and HANSEL AND GRETEL with Augusta Opera.

In the summer of 2013 Mr. Anthony began his new appointment as Director of Opera with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center. A member of the Faculty at Brevard since 2008, his productions include THE MERRY WIDOW, FALSTAFF, ALBERT HERRING, SWEENEY TODD, THE THREEPENNY OPERA, THE BALLAD OF BABY DOE, RIGOLETTO, ELIXIR OF LOVE, SUOR ANGELICA, TINTYPES, HMS PINAFORE, a Workshop of Robert Aldridge's new opera SISTER CARRIE, and the world premiere of the new opera, SPEED DATING TONIGHT! conceived by Mr. Anthony, with words and music by Michael Ching.

From 2009-2012, Mr. Anthony was the Resident Stage Director & Director of Production at Shreveport Opera where he directed DON GIOVANNI, MAN OF LA MANCHA, LA BOHEME, MANON LESCAUT, THE MERRY WIDOW, TOSCA, MADAMA BUTTERFLY, LA TRAGEDIE DE CARMEN, AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS, and THE FANTASTICKS.

Mr. Anthony's unique Master Class series based on Movement and Acting for Singers has lead him to Nashville Opera, Tulsa Opera, Florentine Opera, Virginia Opera, Shreveport Opera, Florida Grand Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, Winter Opera, Festival Lyrique de Belle Ile en Mer, Brevard Music Center, University of Miami, Boston Conservatory of Music, University of Kansas, Washington University, Texas State University, University of West Florida, University of Memphis, University of Delaware, SIU Edwardsville, Astonia Music Festival, University of Wisconsin Green Bay, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Central Methodist University.

As a Character Tenor, Mr. Anthony was in particular demand with his portrayals of the roles Puck in A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM, Little Bat in SUSANNA, Curley in OF MICE AND MEN, the Witch in HANSEL AND GRETEL, Pong in TURANDOT, Bardolfo in FALSTAFF, Beppe in I PAGLIACCI, Pedrillo in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL, Sancho in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Monostatos in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Alfred in DIE FLEDERMAUS , Brigella and Tanzmeister in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, Njegus in THE MERRY WIDOW, The four Servants in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN, and Goro in MADAMA BUTTERFLY. He was a frequent guest with companies across North America including L'Opera de Montreal, San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Baltimore Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Vancouver Opera, Florentine Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Arizona Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Nashville Opera, and Opera Carolina. As Daniel Buchanan in the acclaimed production of STREET SCENE, which was televised worldwide, Mr. Anthony made his European debut with Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen, Germany, with subsequent performances in Berlin at Theater des Westens. Other television appearances include broadcasts of AN EVENING OF GILBERT AND SULLIVAN with the Boston Pops under the baton of Roger Norrington, and the world premiere of Robert Greenleaf's UNDER THE ARBOR, both on PBS. Mr. Anthony can be heard on NAXOS* as Kaspar on the GRAMMY® nominated recording of AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS, and seen as Danny Buchanan in Francesca Zambello's STREET SCENE on Image Entertainment*.
